Thank you all for such nice compliments on the sweater. I really do like how it turned out. Now for the ribbon/cord dilemma. I decided against the i-cord as somehow 40" of i-cord sounded like no fun to knit. I did make some cord per Loribird's suggestion. I like how it looks since it matches exactly but somehow I don't think it is enough.

I also have to say that making 40" of cord like this requires arms as long as a Orangutan and for sure a cordless drill. Without the drill this would not even be an option.
So I went ribbon hunting today and came up with 2 options. One is a very close match in color but has more body then the cord.

Or there is the multi-colored one that I think wins out. When Miriam said to go for a totally different color it got me thinking a little more and I thought this worked well.

Let me know what you think, worst case I have 3 options for it depending on my mood.
I have a question for all you lace knitters out there. I found this shawl pattern that I really like and would like to try but wondered what would happen to the size of it if I used a fingering weight yarn vs lace weight? Would it grow so huge that I would be swallowed alive by it meaning I would have to alter the pattern which I don't really want to do since I have never attempted one before. Anyone know?

I like the green ribbon, in your last photo; I think it sets off the top very nicely.
About the yarn-cord - could you have used your wheel to make it? Just wondering, as an afterthought.
The shawl question is a good one. It might depend on the pattern, but for the most part I would think substituting a fingering yarn shouldn't be too bad. If the pattern has a certain number of repeats to attain size, you can quit when you've knit it large enough. By then it would not be hard to "alter" the pattern.

FANTASTIC!!! I vote for the green ribbon....I love that color on you....wow!
My answer for the shawl question is this:
If you're using fingering weight, it will be longer, wider and also heavier...but that might not be a bad thing. You might like the extra width, length and weight.
So, I suggest making a swatch using the fingering AND the laceweight (any leftover in your stash would do) in the lace shawl pattern and then comparing them. You would be able to get a little idea of how the fingering one would change the overall "shawl-ness" of the pattern.
I agree with Loribird, too. You can always stop knitting when it's long enough for you. Or you could take out one pattern repeat in the width, so that it would even be close to the laceweight yarn width.
Lots of options. Which one are you thinking of doing? My friends and I are doing a Lace-Along in May.....the Myrtle Leaf Shawl from "Victorian Lace Today". You could always wait and join us! Most of us will be using the Jade Sapphire Lacey Lamb (100% extrafine lambwool) for this.
Good luck!

Love the green ribbon! Lovely choice in color. I think it finishes the sweater off nicely. It's nice too because you can always change the color depending on your mood.
